Stardew Valley only saves when the in-game day ends. Each farm has a folder under %appdata%\StardewValley\Saves, and the game needs both required save files in that folder to load it. The official wiki lists four ways to recover a save: fix a temporary file name, undo the last save, restore an SMAPI backup, or put back a save that Steam Cloud overwrote.
