ELDEN RING

Save file location, GraphicsConfig.xml, official requirements and what to check when the game will not start.

ELDEN RING keeps your save as ER0000.sl2 inside a folder named after your Steam ID, and its graphics settings in GraphicsConfig.xml. The game runs at up to 60 FPS. Mods and external DLL files are a common cause of launch failures, and modded play should stay offline.

If the game will not start

Try one change at a time and test the game afterward, so you can see whether it helped.

  1. 1
Verify the game files in Steam
  2. 2
Update Windows and your GPU driver
  3. 3
Turn off the Steam overlay and other tools that run in the background
  4. 4
Move only files you can identify as installed mods or their added DLLs out of the game folder; keep a copy and record their original locations
  5. 5
Back up GraphicsConfig.xml and let the game recreate it
