The short answer
FromSoftware’s FAQ says the Steam version does not support ultrawide monitors. The standard 16:9 image leaves side bars on a wider panel. Black bars alone are not a hardware fault; investigate scaling if the picture stretches or the interface is cut off.

Step 1|Check the location of the black bars
Side bars are expected when a standard-width image is centered on an ultrawide panel.
Time: About a minute · Risk: low
- Open Windows Settings → System → Display and inspect the selected monitor’s resolution.
- Inspect the game’s display resolution and mode.
- Confirm whether bars are only at the sides or also at the top/bottom. Note stretching or cropping separately.

Step 2|Preserve aspect ratio if the image is stretched
Change one scaling layer at a time and compare familiar circular shapes and UI edges.
Time: A few minutes · Risk: low
- Record the current GPU and monitor settings before changing them.
- In NVIDIA Control Panel’s Adjust desktop size and position, or AMD Software’s display/scaling settings, choose aspect-ratio-preserving scaling where available. Consult the model/driver guide if labels differ.
- Inspect the monitor’s own scaling mode. Compare an aspect-preserving option with any full-panel stretch option and restore unhelpful changes.
Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.
Step 3|Evaluate unofficial widescreen tools only as an offline modification
Tools such as Flawless Widescreen are not official support and can require changes incompatible with normal anti-cheat-protected online play.
Time: Review compatibility before making changes · Risk: high
- Preserve a dated save backup and record the original installation.
- Check the tool author’s compatibility and removal instructions for the installed game version; stop if unclear.
- Do not take a modified or anti-cheat-bypassed setup online. Keep any experiment separate from standard online play.
Before returning to ordinary play, remove added tools, restore the normal launch configuration and verify official files. Verification does not establish that every extra file or modified save is safe.
Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.
Avoid
- Do not connect online while an unofficial widescreen modification or anti-cheat bypass is active.
- Do not skip the pre-modification save backup.
Important cautions
- Record display settings before changing them.
FAQ
Does this also apply to a 32:9 display?
A standard 16:9 picture has side bars on 32:9 as well. Relative to the panel, those bars occupy more width than on a 21:9 display.
Does borderless remove the bars?
Changing window mode does not add supported ultrawide rendering. Borderless can be worth comparing for refresh or desktop-switching behavior, separately from aspect ratio.
Will official ultrawide support be added?
The FAQ currently says unsupported. It does not establish a future promise; check the publisher’s announcements if support changes.
