The short answer

Use your own Microsoft account, confirm the party code and count everyone: local and online players together must fit within four slots. The game supports local, online and mixed co-op plus matchmaking. If everyone is disconnected, check service notices before changing the PC.

Step 1|Sign in with your own Microsoft account

The original guidance requires Microsoft sign-in, including Steam account linking. Do not unlink accounts just to test.

Time: About 5 minutes · Risk: low

  1. Follow the game’s Microsoft sign-in instructions.
  2. On a shared PC, confirm that the signed-in account is yours.
  3. If you forgot the password, use Microsoft’s official account recovery/reset page.

Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.

Step 2|Join using the party code

Party codes connect friends; matchmaking is also available when looking for other players.

Time: About 3 minutes · Risk: low

  1. Ask the host to check the party code.
  2. Enter the code carefully on the joining player’s device.
  3. For cross-play, confirm that every player has signed in with their own Microsoft account.

Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.

Step 3|Count every player in the party

Mixed co-op combines players sharing a screen with online friends, within the same four-player total.

Time: About 1 minute · Risk: low

  1. Count all local players on the host device plus everyone connected online.
  2. If the total exceeds four, reduce the local player count or form separate parties.

Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.

Step 4|Check official service notices

If everyone is affected, the cause may be on the service side.

Time: About 2 minutes · Risk: low

  1. Check official Minecraft announcements (@Minecraft) and the game’s Steam news for an outage or maintenance notice.
  2. During a confirmed outage, avoid reinstalling the game or changing network settings.

Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.

Step 5|Compare your own connection

Use these checks when service notices do not explain why only your PC is affected.

Time: About 10 minutes · Risk: low

  1. If you use a VPN or network optimization tool, compare with it temporarily off only when permitted; restore it afterward.
  2. Restart your own router using its manufacturer’s procedure and allow reconnection. Warn other users first; do not reset it to factory settings.
  3. If practical, compare wired Ethernet with Wi-Fi. Return to your usual connection after the test.
  4. Steam: right-click the game in Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.

Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.

Step 6|Check the Hero Cape account requirement

The original announcement requires playing both the first Minecraft Dungeons and this game with the same Microsoft account.

Time: About 5 minutes · Risk: low

  1. Confirm that the same account was used for both games.
  2. Allow time for the entitlement to appear, as the announcement notes. It does not provide a guaranteed processing time.

Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.

Avoid

  • Do not borrow a friend’s Microsoft account: progress and entitlements may belong to that account instead of yours.
  • Do not reinstall or reconfigure the network during an announced outage.

Important cautions

  • Features and notices can change around release; check the latest official announcements.
  • The original official notice directs bug reports to aka.ms/Dungeons2Bugs.

FAQ

Can Steam and Microsoft Store/Game Pass players play together?

The game supports cross-play. The original guidance requires Microsoft sign-in for both editions; confirm current access and use the party code.

Can multiple people share one PC?

Local co-op is supported, and mixed co-op can add online friends. The combined party still has a four-player maximum.

Will an older laptop meet the requirements?

Compare the complete store requirements. Minimum graphics are GTX 1050/RX 560-class dedicated hardware with at least 2 GB VRAM, 8 GB RAM and Windows 10 1703 or later. Recommended graphics are GTX 1060/RX 580-class with at least 6 GB VRAM and 16 GB RAM. A GPU family name alone does not guarantee the required VRAM.

Is Steam Deck supported?

The October 1 announcement recorded in the original review described Steam Deck as Playable, with issues such as the on-screen keyboard still outstanding and further work toward Verified. Do not equate Playable with Verified or assume that historical status proves the current rating.
