Phantom Blade Zero PC Launch Preparation: SSD, GPU and Upscaling Checks

Prerelease preparation for future launch failures, long loads or low FPS. First check release availability; a locked preload is not evidence of a broken installation.

The short answer

Steam requires SSD installation even at minimum specifications. The minimum target is 1080p/30 FPS with upscaling, and the recommended target is 1440p/60 FPS with upscaling. After release, use only graphics options actually present and compare one change at a time; these are preparation steps, not reproduced retail fixes.

Step 1|Identify the installation drive

SSD installation is part of both Steam configurations.

Time: About 5 minutes · Risk: low

  1. Open Steam Settings → Storage and identify the game’s drive.
  2. In Task Manager → Performance, compare the drive identity and SSD/HDD type.
  3. If it is on an HDD, use Steam’s supported Storage move operation to a suitable SSD when installation/moving is available; preserve important data first.

Step 2|Compare GPU, RAM and CPU

The minimum target assumes upscaling rather than native rendering.

Time: About 3 minutes · Risk: low

  1. In Task Manager → Performance → GPU, record the exact GPU and dedicated memory against GTX 1660 6 GB or RX 5500 XT 8 GB.
  2. Confirm at least 16 GB system RAM.
  3. Compare the CPU with Core i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600.

Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.

Step 3|After release, compare the actual graphics controls

Published minimum and recommended targets both assume upscaling.

Time: About 5 minutes · Risk: low

  1. Record current settings and enable an available supported upscaler such as DLSS or FSR only if the game offers it.
  2. Separately disable ray tracing if that control exists, then compare the same scene.
  3. Compare 1080p against the published minimum 30 FPS target; do not treat the target as a guaranteed measurement.

Retail control names and availability were not tested. Restore changes that do not help.

Step 4|Compare official drivers, files and overlays

Use these checks after the release unlocks if launch fails.

Time: About 15 minutes · Risk: low

  1. Check an applicable current official driver through NVIDIA App, AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition or Intel’s website, then restart after installation.
  2. Steam Library → right-click the game → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.
  3. Compare with Discord/Steam overlays and recording/FPS tools disabled, restoring ineffective changes.

Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.

Avoid

  • Do not keep reducing quality while ignoring the SSD requirement.
  • Do not use unofficial tools that modify DRM files; the Steam listing identifies Denuvo.

Important cautions

  • This is prerelease guidance. Check release availability and subsequent official issue/fix notices before interpreting a launch failure.

FAQ

Is GTX 1660 included in the minimum?

Yes, the 6 GB model is listed with a 1080p/30 FPS target using upscaling. SSD installation and the other requirements still apply.

Is Windows 10 listed?

The store lists 64-bit Windows 10/11. This game requirement is not a recommendation to use an unsupported Windows installation.

When is the release?

The checked Steam page displays October 28, 2026. The original official-announcement review records October 29 after a delay from September 9. Use the store and publisher notice for the exact unlock time in your region; do not assume a timezone explanation that was not verified.

Can I use a controller?

The original store review records full controller support, recommends a gamepad and lists DUALSHOCK/DualSense support. Retail controller behavior has not been tested here.
