The short answer
The developer’s known-issues advice points to BIOS updates and RAD’s Intel-instability explanation. First identify the exact processor. Follow the hardware branch only for an affected Intel desktop model; AMD, mobile and other out-of-scope CPUs should use the game/file/driver branch. A BIOS update does not repair physical CPU degradation.

- Developer advice
- Check BIOS currency, after identifying the CPU and exact manufacturer model.
- Affected scope
- Applicable Intel 13th/14th-generation desktop models; not the mobile processors excluded by Intel.
- Example error
DecompressShader(): Could not decompress shader (GetShaderCompressionFormat=Oodle)- Historical patch baseline
- The original review covered 1.0.5 shader-pipeline improvements. Install available updates and check later official notes.

| What you see | What to check | Go to |
|---|---|---|
| The game crashes while compiling shaders | Identify the CPU before choosing a hardware branch. | Step 1 |
| The exact CPU is an affected Intel desktop model | Compare its manufacturer’s stability and BIOS guidance. | Step 2 |
| The CPU is AMD, mobile or otherwise outside that scope | Check game updates, files and drivers. | Step 4 |
| An affected desktop system reports video-memory errors | CPU instability can produce similar messages; this is not proof by itself. | Step 2 |
| It still crashes after the applicable BIOS update | Preserve evidence and contact hardware/game support. | Step 5 |

Step 1|Record the stage, error and exact processor
Out-of-scope processors should use step 4 instead of updating BIOS for this specific instability.
Time: About 3 minutes · Risk: low
- Record whether the crash occurs during startup shader compilation or during gameplay.
- Copy the complete error and note whether it includes DecompressShader.
- Press Windows+R, run msinfo32 and read Processor, including the full model suffix.
Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.
Step 2|Compare the BIOS for the exact affected system
This branch applies only when the manufacturer identifies the Intel desktop model as affected.
Time: About 20–40 minutes · Risk: high
- In msinfo32, record BIOS Version/Date and BaseBoard Product or the exact prebuilt PC model.
- For a prebuilt PC, use its maker’s support page; for a custom build, use the exact motherboard model’s page.
- If an applicable BIOS update is available, follow that manufacturer’s procedure.
Interrupting a BIOS update can prevent startup. If unsure, ask the manufacturer before proceeding; an update prevents damaging operating conditions rather than repairing existing degradation.
Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.
Step 3|After the update, let shader compilation complete
Compare after a normal restart.
Time: Several minutes or more · Risk: low
- Restart the PC and launch the game.
- Let compilation finish without starting other heavy apps.
- If it crashes again, stop repeated launch attempts and use step 5.
Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.
Step 4|Check game updates, files and graphics drivers
The historical notes record stability changes in 1.0.4 and shader-pipeline improvements in 1.0.5.
Time: About 5–15 minutes · Risk: low
- Check Steam or GOG Galaxy for available game updates.
- On Steam, use Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.
- Check an appropriate current official GPU driver, then restart after updating.
Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.
Step 5|Contact support if the failure persists
RAD explains that actual degradation may require replacement; repeated crashes alone do not diagnose it.
Time: Time varies · Risk: low
- Record whether other games or demanding applications have also crashed; do not repeatedly stress an already unstable PC just to provoke failures.
- Contact the PC maker, retailer or Intel support with the CPU model and symptoms.
- Also report the complete error and CPU model through the developer’s official support route, since a game-side problem remains possible.
Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.
Avoid
- Do not install another model’s BIOS.
- Do not interrupt power or operate the PC during a BIOS update contrary to its instructions.
- Do not change CPU voltages or overclocking parameters without understanding the manufacturer guidance.
Important cautions
- Follow the PC/motherboard maker’s support and update requirements.
FAQ
Should an AMD or laptop CPU use the same BIOS branch?
No. This Intel instability branch is scoped to affected desktop processors. Use the game/file/driver checks and report the exact error for other systems.
Other demanding apps crash too. Does that prove CPU degradation?
No. RAD describes wider application failures as possible evidence, but multiple crashes do not prove one cause. Record them for the manufacturer.
Does updating BIOS guarantee recovery?
No. The update addresses damaging operating conditions. RAD explains that existing physical deterioration cannot be repaired in software and affected hardware may require replacement.
