Monster Hunter Wilds

Save location, config.ini, official requirements and a launch-crash checklist for the PC version.

Monster Hunter Wilds stores saves in your Steam userdata folder, and its display settings live in config.ini inside the game folder. Before changing anything, note when the crash happens: at launch, during shader preparation, or after a long hunt. Each needs a different check.

If the game will not start

Try one change at a time and test the game afterward, so you can see whether it helped.

  1. 1
After an update, remove mods and turn off overlays, then compare
  2. 2
Verify the game files in Steam and note whether files were re-downloaded
  3. 3
Record your GPU driver version, then compare an update or a rollback
  4. 4
Check dedicated VRAM, especially with the high-resolution texture pack
  5. 5
Move only config.ini out of the game folder so the display settings are recreated
  6. 6
On PCs with two GPUs, make sure the game runs on the dedicated GPU

Save and settings locations

Save data

<Steam>\userdata\<Steam ID>\2246340\remote\win64_save

Open userdata inside the Steam client installation, then follow the numbered folders shown above. This is separate from the game installation. Replace <Steam> and <Steam ID> with the actual location and account folder; do not paste placeholders into Run. Do not overwrite data for an account you cannot identify.

Settings files

<game folder>\config.ini

In the Steam Library, right-click the game → Manage → Browse local files, then find the listed file in the actual installation. Installation-folder placeholders are not literal paths to paste into Run. Keep a copy before editing.
