Aniimo Black Screen: Game-Only Failure or the Whole Windows Display?

For a black Aniimo window, sound with no game picture, or an entirely blank monitor. These symptoms require different first checks.

The short answer

Use Alt+Tab or Ctrl+Alt+Delete to see whether Windows remains visible. If only the game is black, compare its display mode once, then save and retest any working setting. If the whole display is blank, restore monitor/Windows output before trying game-file operations.

Fixes, in order

Step 1|Establish whether Windows remains visible

Separate the game window from the entire display output.

Time: About 3 minutes · Risk: low

  1. Use Alt+Tab to switch to another app or the desktop. If visible, continue to the game-only branch.
  2. If nothing appears, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete once. If its screen appears, use Task Manager to check whether Aniimo responds.
  3. If neither screen appears and the whole monitor is blank, use the Windows-display branch.

Audio alone does not identify whether the failure belongs to game rendering or the whole display.

Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.

Step 2|Compare one display-mode toggle when only the game is black

Use this branch only when Windows is visible.

Time: About 3 minutes · Risk: low

  1. Confirm Windows is visible, then return to Aniimo with Alt+Tab.
  2. With Aniimo selected, press Alt+Enter once and wait about ten seconds. The game may not support this shortcut.
  3. If the picture returns, use the next working-display step. If not, or it returns only briefly, use Ctrl+Alt+Delete → Task Manager to close the unresponsive game and proceed to repair.

No response to Alt+Enter does not prove file corruption. Do not repeat it blindly when the whole display is blank.

Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.

Step 3|Recover the monitor and Windows display first

Do not begin game-file operations while the desktop is unavailable.

Time: About 5 minutes · Risk: low

  1. Check monitor power, the selected HDMI/DisplayPort input and cable connections. On a laptop, disconnect the external monitor temporarily and inspect the internal screen.
  2. Press Windows+Ctrl+Shift+B once and check for a sound, flicker or restored desktop.
  3. If still blank, press Windows+P, then P and Enter to compare one projection mode; wait a few seconds and check the intended output.
  4. If Ctrl+Alt+Delete restores visibility, close Aniimo through Task Manager and recover the desktop before game checks. If no display returns, use Microsoft’s Windows blank-screen guidance.

Avoid forced power-off during known updates or save writes. Consult the Windows recovery guidance before deciding how to restart an unresponsive system.

Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.

Step 4|Save the working mode and test another launch

One temporary picture is not a completed recovery.

Time: About 5 minutes · Risk: low

  1. Record the working game display mode and resolution and save that configuration.
  2. Exit normally and reopen on the same monitor; check both login and gameplay output.
  3. If it becomes black only on restart, select the actual monitor in Windows Settings → System → Display and inspect resolution and layout.
  4. If the same configuration still fails, continue to file repair.

Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.

Step 5|Repair when the game remains black

Use the installation’s own repair mechanism.

Time: About 15 minutes · Risk: low

  1. Confirm the Windows desktop is available, close Aniimo and check official update/maintenance notices.
  2. In the official launcher, use top-right settings → one-click repair and restart after it finishes.
  3. On Steam, use Aniimo Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.
  4. Record any reacquisition and check output from the logo through gameplay. If it still fails, use the result branch.

Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.

Step 6|Choose the next comparison from the result

Keep official black-screen advice scoped to this symptom.

Time: About 10 minutes · Risk: low

  1. If reacquisition restores the picture and another launch works, retain that result. If the same failure returns, record time/repair outcome and check official updates.
  2. If repair changes nothing and only Aniimo is black, check an appropriate official GPU driver, restart after updating and compare overlays one at a time.
  3. The October 16 known-issues page suggests switching DX11/DX12 for black screens. Only compare when Windows is usable and the actual control is identifiable; record its prior value. Do not invent a configuration key or launch argument.
  4. If login-screen settings are accessible, separately compare DLSS off and frame generation off as the official notice suggests. Record the original value, use the same scene and restore it if there is no improvement. Skip missing or inaccessible controls.
  5. If the Windows desktop also disappears again, return to Microsoft’s display-output, connection and driver guidance instead of assuming a game setting is responsible.
  6. For persistent game-only failure, report platform, update timing, Alt+Enter result, audio state and error text through official support. The original guide lists support_jp@aniimo.com as the Japanese desk.

Avoid

  • Do not delete game files or settings blindly when the whole PC display is blank.
  • Do not add unofficial DLLs, repair tools or unexplained configuration files.

Important cautions

  • The October 16 notices do not give a build number. Their relationship to a particular Steam build or a claimed October 17 PC launch fix is unverified.
  • Do not repeatedly force shutdown during known launcher updates or disk writes.

FAQ

Does hearing game audio prove that only Aniimo is affected?

No. First check whether Alt+Tab shows the desktop. If Windows is also invisible, inspect monitor input and Windows display recovery.

Alt+Enter helped once, but the next launch is black again. What next?

Save the mode/resolution that worked and check the selected Windows display. If only the game keeps failing, repair its updated files and retain the result.

Does a white screen before the logo use exactly the same guidance?

The original official FAQ has a separate DirectX 11 item for that symptom. First establish desktop visibility, then consult that specific official entry rather than applying every black-screen setting.
