The short answer

EA lists outdated graphics drivers, damaged installation files and a PC below minimum requirements as possible causes. Work through driver, repair and hardware checks one at a time. These are troubleshooting candidates, not proof that every black screen has one of only three causes.

Step 1|Update the matching graphics driver

EA identifies an outdated driver as a possible cause.

Time: 10–20 minutes · Risk: low

  1. Run dxdiag and record the GPU and driver on the Display tab.
  2. Use NVIDIA, AMD or Intel’s official driver source, or the laptop maker’s applicable driver.
  3. Restart after installing and compare the same scene.

Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.

Step 2|Repair or verify game files

This checks installation files; it does not restore lost save progress.

Time: 5–15 minutes · Risk: low

  1. EA app: open Library, choose the three dots on the game tile, select Repair and restart the PC when it finishes.
  2. Steam: right-click the game in Library → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.
  3. Epic Games Launcher: open the game’s three-dot menu in Library → Manage → Verify.

Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.

Step 3|Compare the minimum requirements

Check the actual hardware rather than assuming all GPUs in a series qualify.

Time: About 3 minutes · Risk: low

  1. Use dxdiag: System for OS, CPU and RAM; Display for the GPU.
  2. Compare with GTX 1080, RX 5600 XT or Arc B580 and 16 GB RAM as the listed minimum GPU/RAM baseline.
  3. For Intel Arc, check Resizable BAR status using the PC or motherboard maker’s documentation. EA recommends enabling it; ask the maker before changing unfamiliar BIOS settings.

Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.

Step 4|Compare with background capture apps closed

Record the result so support can distinguish the conditions.

Time: About 3 minutes · Risk: low

  1. Close recording, streaming and FPS-overlay apps.
  2. Launch with only the game and launcher running.
  3. If the screen stays black, record the stage and any errors for EA support.

Results that did not fix the problem help the next reader too.

Avoid

  • Do not assume lowering quality will make a GPU below the minimum supported.
  • Do not blindly change settings when the screen is unreadable.

Important cautions

  • Keep a record of attempted steps and the exact failure stage for official support.

FAQ

Do GTX 1060 and GTX 1070 meet the minimum?

EA lists GTX 1080 as the NVIDIA minimum, alongside RX 5600 XT and Arc B580. Lower-performance GPUs do not meet that baseline and may fail to launch or run correctly.

What should Intel Arc users check?

EA recommends Resizable BAR for improved FPS and notes it may be disabled by default. Follow the exact system or motherboard maker’s instructions; it is not a universal black-screen cure.

Does verifying files restore or erase my saves?

Verification checks installed game files rather than recovering progress. The original PCGamingWiki review locates saves at %LOCALAPPDATA%\SWZeroCompany\Saved\SaveGames. Close the game and launcher and make an independent copy before any save-related troubleshooting.
